Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound)
A diagnostic medical sonographer is an Ultrasound professional specialized in using equipment to create images of structures inside the human body. These images are used by physicians to make a medical diagnosis. Sonograms or ultrasounds can be used to examine many parts of the body, such as the abdomen, breast, female reproductive system, prostate, heart and bloodvessels. Sonography is increasingly being used in the detection and treatment of heart disease, heart attack and vascular diseases that can lead to strokes.
Typical Duties Performed by Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (Ultrasound):
- Clinical Assessment and Diagnostic Examinations
- Identify, Record and Adapt Procedures as Appropriate to Anatomical, Pathological, Diagnostic Information and Images
- Differentiate Between Normal and Pathological Findings; Communicate Findings to Appropriate Physician
- Ensure Patient Safety, Mental and Physical Comfort
- Maintain Daily Log of Patients Seen
